Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a charity that organises sailing trips from their two bases – the Isle of Wight and Largs, Scotland for children and young people recovering from cancer.

The aim being to give them a chance to be free from worry for a weekend full of comradery with like minded people who have been through similar experiences. Thea was lucky enough to be invited along to join one of the trips for a day. It was a truly humbling and inspiring experience to witness firsthand the amazing work the trust does and to see it directly benefiting the lives of the girls she sailed with that day was an experience that stayed with her.

Solent were approached by the trust as a referral for Thea’s illustration skills; due to the fact they were specifically after a distinctive illustrative style for their concept for a fundraising newspaper. Which was to inspire and document the effort of the trusts vital fundraisers and to celebrate the people doing extreme challenges to raise the funds to continue their important mission.

Working closely with the client, Thea saw this project through from the idea and brief to the final execution with regular face to face client liaison and correspondence as well as managing the projects milestones and deadlines alongside her work on the illustration and design. The first edition was well received with the result being a second edition produced the following Spring.
